Dental Hygiene – Is Proper Dental Care Necessary for Everyone?

Monday, February 9th, 2009

The American Dental Association will definitely say yes, proper dental care is necessary for everyone. Brushing your teeth after each meal is highly recommended, but at least twice a day is a must. The opinions are split on the topic of dental floss, therefore if you think you need it, and then do it. Visiting your dentist at least twice a year is the recommended dose prescribed, you may overdo it, but you will be frowned upon if you neglect it.

Realistically speaking, who goes twice a year to a dentist? The list of these people is small. Actors and public figures are known to have monthly appointments, where at least teeth whitening procedures take place. Regular people try to keep the recommended schedule, but seldom adhere to it. Many people are scared of dentists and go only when they must.

It will always be a mystery why the homeless man you see every other day has a full head of hair and when he smiles at you for giving him a buck or two, you see dirty, but impeccable teeth. You brush your teeth daily, at least twice, you go to the dentist more or less regularly, you wash your hair as often as recommended and, if you are a man your hair is gone and you have barely a few natural teeth in your head; or if you are a woman, your teeth are just fine and your hair is perfect, but realistically the situation is dire indeed.
