In terms of implant dentistry, supported dentures are the one which does not rest on the gums but are supported by the implants and are even attached to them. These implant supported denture are used when the patients are deprived of any teeth but have fair enough bone and which is even strong enough for supporting the supported denture. They are made in such a way with special attachments which give them a firm grip on the implants. They are mostly useful in lower jaws because of the unstable nature of the regular dentures there.
Two kinds of implant supported denture are there which are namely bar- retained and ball retained. They are very natural to look and the difference of being artificial is not seen at all. They look like gum and have a base which is of acrylic. At least three implants are required for the stability of the bar retained supported denture and two are needed for ball retained supported denture.
There are special attachments which are present in case of supported dentures which are attached either in bar or in dentures or may even be present in both of them. These supported dentures are easily removable and are even easy to use. They help a lot for people lacking teeth and can give a very active support in leading a normal life.
