Dental Treatments That Can Be Completed in Only One or Two Visits

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Dental implants used to have this aura of being not available to mere mortals and requiring extended procedures and visits to the dentist, with prolonged recovery time and possible rejection by the host tissue. Most of these concerns have been addressed by the dental community and have received an improvement which is supposed to make it not only available to many, but also make it become as easily performed as regular crown work, with all treatment completed in only one or two visits to the dentist.

If it sounds too good to be true, then keep in mind that some small percentage of patients still can experience rejection by the host tissue, although these cases can be addressed by additional assistance and medication. Furthermore, some weak jawbones will still need grafting before a successful procedure. But most patients can enjoy the immediate implant placement, performed right after the tooth extraction. This relatively new procedure allows the dental surgeon to implant the replacement screw, either made out of titanium, or more recently out of zirconium, right after the excision, with immediate crown loading procedures following the same day.

Some patients will have to stick to the longer treatment plan, but to find out if you can have all treatment completed in only one or two visits, inquire with your dentist.

Treatments That Cost Lesser Than The Traditional Surgical Implants

Monday, December 15th, 2008

When looking for a high quality replacement for your sick tooth, then there are several possibilities you may want to take into consideration. Dental implants are considered to be as close to the original as currently possible through dental wizardry, but they are extremely expensive and the actual application takes a long while. There are current improvements in the works, where a recently removed tooth can be almost immediately replaced with an implant, but the cost remains almost the same.

The only other option widely considered as a viable contender to this procedure is veneer, either porcelain or composite. The reason for the consideration is the lower cost and the conventional application, either as a crown or as a bridge, replacing missing teeth. There is no surgical procedure necessary and the recovery time is minimal. Depending on the materials used, this procedure may run thousands of dollars less than the implant procedure and due to current improved cements and bonding agents, the duration of such a veneer can surpass the ten year limitation significantly.

The main plus side, besides the lower cost, is the non invasive technique applied, whereby there are no osseointegration periods required and no rejection possible or applicable by the host tissue.

Friday, November 7th, 2008

The rise in the popularity of the dental implants is quite visible with the number of people going for it. No doubt, within a short span of time it has embroidered a special place for itself on the fabric of dental part of the medical world. Basically, a dental implant is an artificially made titanium stub which is fixed inside the jaw; over this stub is placed an artificial tooth. Actually, implant is a substitute for the decayed root.

Three major dental implants are available these days: Sub-periosteal implants, endosteal implants and artificial bone substitute implants. Sub-periosteal implant is placed unswervingly above the jaw bone and is preferred mostly for the elderly people, who no longer can wear dentures. The endosteal implant is placed into the jaw substituting the dental root. In the last type of implant, calcium is used as a substitute which over time bonds with the jaw bone.

The best part of the dental implants is that the surgical procedure involved is very easy and no longer painful. However, dental implants are a bit expensive and the cost may range form $200 to $6500. This price is worth for those who want to get back their original smile and their lost teeth.
